Champ Fleury
Geoffroy Tory. Grolier Club. New York. 1927. Designed by Bruce Rogers.
Dimensions: 12 3/8 x 8 1/2” x 3/4”.
Bound: 2025.
Red goatskin binding with blind tooled triangle, recessed at the bottom and raised at the top. Other areas were raised and sanded. Gold, blind and painted tooling. Top edge rough gilt. Painted cork edge-to-edge pastedowns and flyleaves.
Much of Champ Fleury is dedicated to the geometric construction of Roman letters and type. The invented “A” and “Z” on the front and back covers are compositions referencing the illustrations in the text. The triangular form on the front is a nod to several shaped type pages. These are often found at the end of a chapter or colophon.
