The Helen Fragments
Richard Seibert (translator), Winifred McNeill (illustrator). Editions Koch. Berkeley 2003.
Dimensions: 11 1/4” x 7” x 1”.
Bound: 2024.
Black goatskin binding sewn on meeting guards with painted paper/mylar laminated strips set into recessed spaces. Painted cork edge-to-edge pastedowns and flyleaves. Natural edges. Prospectus sewn in.
The letters spelling HELEN are fragmented and presented as if projected on the various painted strips. This treatment is simply a literal interpretation of the title, The Helen Fragments. The lettering style is adapted from the carved letterforms found on the Trajan Column in Rome.
